Most Brooks Towers Accord category one permit holders assisted in St. Maarten

~ In IBP special Saturday openings ~

PHILIPSBURG–The majority of the Brooks Towers Accord (BTA) category one permit holders were assisted during the special Saturday openings at the Immigration and Border Protection Service (IBP).

IBP’s Admittance and Residency Office on A.TH. Illidge Road opened its doors for several Saturdays as of July 20 to a large number of residents to exchange their category one permits for regular residency permits as a part of the final closure of the BTA system.

Although the project was met with some apprehension due to the long lines that were created, the IBP provided intake service as efficiently as possible, it was stated in a press release on Monday.

The month-long initiative has resulted in assistance being given to the majority of category one permit holders – the largest group of the BTA system. This signifies that the project met its objectives, the release read.

For the few persons who did not manage to visit the office, the IBP is offering them the opportunity to submit during the regular opening hours on A.TH. Illidge Road. This can be done, however, until November 2, 2013, before the permit expires. IBP said it is working diligently to improve its services and provide a smoother process for the residents of St. Maarten.

Category one permit holders constituted the largest group in the BTA system. IBP said the Saturday openings were a success. The last open house was on August 17.
