Government St. Maarten waiting for CFT’s final advice

TUESDAY, 10 JANUARY 2012

PHILIPSBURG–Government is awaiting the final advice on the draft 2012 budget from the Committee for Financial Supervision CFT, according to Finance Minister Hiro Shigemoto. The budget stands at NAf. 432,549,600. The 2011 budget was NAf. 420,916,597.

The Ministry of Finance and the CFT have been working over the past months on finalising a few technical adjustments to the budget to ensure it strictly complies with the Law on Temporary Financial Supervision for Curaçao and St. Maarten.

President of Parliament Gracita Arrindell had said last week that Parliament hopes to have the budget tabled by the end of the month. The ministry is working to meet this date.

Shigemoto had said in December that the aim was to present the budget to Parliament by “the latter part of January 2012” with finalisation, at the latest, on March 1.

“The Ministry of Finance is working diligently to ensure that the systems and processes are in place and lessons learnt in the previous budgets are reflected in the 2013 national budget, which I intend to start working on as early as February 2012,” Shigemoto said.
