PHILIPSBURG – With approximately three weeks remaining, the Department of Statistics Stat will be rounding off the data-collection phase of its annual Labour Force Survey. It is a major source of information for key labort market indicators such as the unemployment rate and employment by industry. The survey is being supplemented with the wellbeing survey that seeks to bring about a better understanding of the poverty situation in St. Maarten. Data collection commenced at the beginning of May.

Via press release on Sunday, Stat urged all residents selected in the sample, but not yet approached or whose forms were not yet completed, to fully cooperate in both surveys prior to June 28.
Stat reminded the general public about the main objectives of these surveys: to gather and make available updated statistics regarding employment, unemployment and proverty in St. Maarten. These statistics will play a vital role in raising awareness about these topics, highlighting problem areas and vulnerable groups, and facilitating policy interventions by government thath will benefit persons from all walks of life.
To this end, Stat looks forward to positive input from residents and assures all participants that their data will be held in strict confidence and will not be shared on an individual basis/unprocessed form with any other department, entity or organisation.
